These records document the formation, goals, and management of the Latino Project from 1976-1984. Files include information about the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia; a small quantity of Luis Diaz's correspondence from his years as director of the Latino Project; the "Manual on Domestic Programs for Community Organizations" prepared by Diaz in 1976-77; funding applications to the Campaign for Human Development, an anti-poverty action program sponsored by the United States Catholic Conference; the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation; and United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania; papers dealing with social and economic problems of Puerto Ricans and Latinos, nationally and locally, which Diaz presented to the Community Needs and Resources Seminar, the Community Services Planning Council of Southeastern Pennsylvania, the Fellowship Commission, and the Pennsylvania Economy League in 1980. Also included are correspondence and minutes of meetings involving Arthur M. Colby, Socorro Rivera, and Gualberto Medina, which detail the Project's effort to collect information about the delivery of health care services for the Spanish-speaking in Philadelphia (some of which was intended for use in the Martinez v. Harris case); meetings with the Hispanic Health Care Coalition; and litgation strategies. Additionally, this series contains topical files set up by Project staff to serve as an in-house resource on Latino rights. Among these materials are mailing lists for Hispanic agencies, organizations, contractors, and vendors; and correspondence, brochures, and leaflets about Hispanic organizations and programs.
